Privacy Policy

Purser Time Clock ("the App") is a workplace time-clock application provided by Purser for use by employees of participating employers (each, an "Employer"). It runs on a shared device at the workplace and lets employees clock in and out of shifts. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
Information we collect
- Employee identity — your name and an internal employee identifier, provided by your Employer.
- PIN — a numeric code you use to clock in and out. PINs are stored only in an encrypted (hashed) form and are never stored or transmitted in plain text.
- Time records — your clock-in and clock-out times, meal and rest breaks, and the store location and device used.
- Photos — a single still photo (a "selfie") captured at the moment you clock in or out, used to verify the identity of the person punching and to prevent time fraud. The App does not record video or use the camera at any other time. See Face data for full details.
Face data (punch-verification photos)
The only face data the App collects is the still photograph of your face captured at the moment you clock in or out. The App does not use facial recognition and does not generate, collect, or store faceprints, facial-geometry measurements, biometric templates, or any other biometric identifiers. The photo is used solely so that an authorized manager can visually confirm that the person who punched is the assigned employee.
Storage. Punch-verification photos are stored in private, access-controlled cloud storage (Google Cloud Storage, located in the United States), encrypted in transit and at rest. Photos are never made public.
Sharing. Punch-verification photos are not shared with or sold to any third party. They are accessible only to your Employer's authorized managers and to Purser as the operator of the service. They are never used for advertising, tracking, or to train machine-learning or facial-recognition systems.
Retention. Punch-verification photos are automatically deleted 90 days after capture. A photo may be retained longer only if it is specifically required for a pending dispute or as required by law, and it is deleted when that requirement ends.
How we use information
- To record hours worked for payroll and scheduling.
- To verify that the person clocking in is the assigned employee (anti–"buddy punching").
- To support labor-law compliance, including break tracking.
- To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App.
How information is shared
Your information is shared only with your Employer and the service providers that operate the Employer's timekeeping and payroll systems on its behalf. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites.
Data retention and security
Time records are stored on secured, access-controlled systems and retained for as long as needed for payroll, recordkeeping, and to meet legal obligations, after which they are deleted or anonymized in accordance with the Employer's policies and applicable law. Punch-verification photos are automatically deleted 90 days after capture (see Face data). We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and restricted access, to protect your information.
Camera permission
The App requests camera access solely to take the clock-in/out verification photo. You will be asked to grant this permission the first time it is needed. The camera is used only during a punch.
Your choices
Because the App is a workplace tool used to record hours worked, employees should direct questions about their time records, photos, or this policy to their manager or to the contact below.
Children
The App is a workplace tool and is not directed to children or to the general public. It is provided to employees in the course of their work.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
